Dear Families, Friends and Staff,
I want to take a few moments to speak with you about the ongoing police investigation of a suspicious death at Menno Home. We have been informed by the Abbotsford Police that the investigation has now moved to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
I am deeply saddened by this situation. First and foremost, our hearts and prayers are with the loved ones of the two residents directly impacted—one of whom has passed away. Our board, leadership and staff grieve the passing of this resident, and we express our condolences to the family.
There are many questions being asked about this police investigation at this time – one that is particularly relevant to those who live or have loved ones living here is, “Are the residents living at Menno Place safe? Is my loved one safe? Am I safe living here?
I want to assure you with confidence that the safety of every resident on our campus is our highest priority. The Abbotsford Police have stated that there is currently no public safety concern for residents living at Menno Place. Menno Place is a long-standing part of the Abbotsford community, having cared for over 27,500 seniors in our 73 years of service. We remain fully dedicated to maintaining the trust that families have placed in us for generations.
We continue to fully support the police investigation and will continue to do so as the investigation evolves. We are doing everything we can to assist them in bringing clarity, answers and resolution.
To keep you informed, we are sharing updates through multiple channels, including a special Critical Incident webpage and a dedicated phone line where you are invited to speak directly with one of our team members. We have also launched a Community Input form that you can fill out to provide your comments, questions, concerns or observations.
As a Christian campus of care, we welcome your prayers for all who live, work and serve at Menno Place.

We are deeply concerned with a situation that is under police investigation involving two residents who had been transferred from Menno Home to the Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Both individuals were experiencing medical emergencies that raised concerns for the medical staff. Sadly, on July 10th, 2025, one of the residents passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected during this difficult time.
We have been fully supporting the police in their process as the safety and well-being of our residents remains our top priority. Upon becoming aware of the situation, we immediately implemented additional safety measures to keep your loved one safe.
