What a memorial gift means to a family

From families who’ve walked this journey with us

“When we invest in compassionate care, equipment and skills that keep seniors safe and comfortable, we are demonstrating what it truly means to truly love our neighbours and value every person in every stage of life.”

Gary Schellenberg

FAQ’s

Can I designate my gift to a specific area?

Yes. When donating online, you can choose from our approved Impact Areas using the “Donate To” dropdown in the giving form. Each option reflects a specific area of care or programming at Menno Place. Gifts are subject to MBS Board donation policy — see the full notice at the bottom of this page.

What if I want to make a larger gift or include Menno Place in my estate plans?

We’d love to talk with you about that. Planned gifts and major gifts make a lasting difference to the seniors in our care. Please email our Advancement team or phone 604.851.3102 — we’d be honoured to help you find the right fit.

Can I order a memorial item while my loved one is still living?

Yes. Many families choose to order a tribute while their loved one is still a resident — it’s a beautiful way to celebrate their life and let them know how much they are loved.

Can I make a memorial gift after my loved one has passed?

Yes. A gift or tribute in memory of a former resident is a meaningful way to honour their life and ensure their legacy lives on at Menno Place.

Will I receive a tax receipt?

Yes. Donations of $20 or more are eligible for an official charitable tax receipt, issued by the Mennonite Benevolent Society, a registered Canadian charity. Your receipt will be emailed to the address you provide at checkout.

What are my options for giving offline?

If you prefer to give by cheque or through a paper form, you can download our donation form and mail it to us at Menno Place, 32945 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC V2S 1K1. You can also email our Advancement team or phone 604.851.3102.

Can I give monthly in memory of a loved one?

Yes. The online donation form includes an option to set up a recurring monthly gift. A monthly memorial gift is a beautiful way to extend your loved one’s legacy throughout the year — and it provides ongoing support to the programs and people at Menno Place.

What is the Mennonite Benevolent Society (MBS)?

MBS is the registered Canadian charity that governs and operates Menno Place. Founded in 1953, it is the legal entity that issues tax receipts and oversees the stewardship of all donations made to Menno Place. When you give to Menno Place, your gift flows through MBS.

I have questions — who can I speak with?

We’re happy to help. Email our Advancement team or phone 604.851.3102 and someone will get back to you personally.

Receipt of and spending of donations is confined to Board approved programs and projects. If, in the opinion of MBS, it should become no longer practical or possible to use this gift for a purpose specified or restricted by the donor (for example, if the program to which it relates is restructured, oversubscribed, or discontinued), MBS will redirect the gift to another purpose where it is most needed, as determined by Board in its discretion.
