Canada Day Car Show
The Canada Day Classic Car Show is the unofficial start to summer at Menno Place.
Our friends from two local car clubs – The Hot Rods and The Pharaohs – showed off their beautiful vehicles to the delight of residents, families, and staff. All around the event you could hear the excitement as many residents recognized cars from their own history.
Aylssa Nielsen performed a tribute to Patsy Cline that had everyone singing and dancing along. Our dining services team fired up the barbeques for lunch with ice cream for dessert. It was a beautiful day to celebrate our country!
Twins With Twin Classic Cars
Alan, a member of our Menno Place community, has always been a fan of cars, specifically Buicks. His collection of classics includes a Roadmaster, an Electra, and 1962 Buick Wildcat that once landed him a spot on TV.
Alan and his twin brother each owned a Wildcat – his brother’s is one of only 105 ever built in Canada. The brothers were displaying their cars side-by-side at the Langley Cruise In when producers from Driving Television saw them. As Alan remembers, the producer said, “Twins? With twin Buicks? That’s a story!”
Menno Place Remembers
Family, friends, and staff gathered at our annual memorial service to honour 162 members of our community who passed in the last year. The service combines music, readings, prayer and a time of remembrance as each name is read out loud.
According to Ralph Hardy, one of the chaplains who lead the service, it is an important touchstone for both residents and their loved ones. He explains, “We believe every life is significant and deserves to be dignified, especially in death.”
10th Annual Butterfly Release
Blue skies and sunshine set a perfect scene for the tenth annual butterfly release. Each year following the memorial service the broader Menno Place community gathers in the Menno Home courtyard to release butterflies together. This event is a beautiful and meaningful way to remember our loved ones who have passed and be reminded of God’s redeeming work. After a short program the butterflies were set free to settle on flowers, and hands, and drink from fresh orange slices. It was a joyful time of remembering!

Chaplaincy affirms every life is worthy of care
Chaplaincy at Menno Place is rooted in presence, relationship, and deep respect for every resident.
Christian values are lived out in the moment. At Menno Place, those moments are resident-focused. The chaplains take the time to show up and be there, meeting residents where they are and allowing their stories, questions, joys, and grief to lead the conversation.
Trust is built through everyday interactions—often beginning with simple moments of connection over meals or casual conversation—creating space for meaningful dialogue about what truly matters.
For Kerry Dyck, a chaplain at Menno Place, “Small talk leads to big talk. And big talk is where we talk about things that matter.”
As relationships deepen, chaplains walk alongside residents and families through moments of loss, transition, faith, and end‑of‑life reflections. This ministry is not about providing quick answers, rather it’s about offering companionship, listening, and providing spiritual care that is grounded in compassion and dignity for all.
“It’s a privilege to step into these holy moments,” adds Kerry.
Whether through prayer groups, quiet conversations, or simply sitting together in silence, the chaplains honor each resident as a whole person. They affirm that every life at Menno Place is valuable and worthy of care, presence, and respect—from the first conversation to the final moments.
