Dan has worked at Menno Place for just over three years. He has 16 years of combined experience working in residential care and as an employment coordinator, assisting individuals with mental health and developmental disabilities with finding and maintaining work in their community. He is an incredible asset at Menno Place.
Today, we asked him a couple questions to get to know him better!
As young teens, our top hits were Jeruzalem and ‘Ere zij God’ – Glory to God.
We sang Jeruzalem everywhere -in school, at work, or in our minds while biking, but never in church.
‘Ere zij God,’ Glory to God, on the other hand, we sang in church exclusively, however, only once a year…

With the sun shining, the balloons up and the ribbon hung, Menno Place gathered for the grand opening of the putting green and lawn bowling alley. Menno Place hosted their second annual Butterfly Release Celebration for seniors, families, and staff in the beautifully landscaped courtyard in the center of the 11-acre campus of care in Abbotsford.
Residents, family members, and staff were encouraged to purchase butterflies for release on this very special occasion…
The children had been sitting with their dying mother for several days. On our first visit Edith and I – along with the family – expected that God would call their mother home any hour. On our second visit, some three days later, we again sat with the family, expecting God to call her home any moment. After reading Psalm 23 and praying slowly and clearly so their dear mother could hear, one daughter asked, “Pastor Walter, why is death so hard?” …
I was worried about the weather, it was rainy and cold in the morning. Would it clear up for the afternoon release of butterflies? I earnestly hoped the sun would come through so that letting the butterflies free to fly could take place…
Menno Place Campus is one of the largest senior's care campuses in British Columbia. There are 700 seniors living on 11 acres across from the Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Menno Place is governed by the Mennonite Benevolent Society which founded faith-based seniors care on this location in 1953.
