Happy National Seniors Day!
October 1, 2026 is National Seniors Day!
It’s a day for Canadians to recognize the profound contributions and value our seniors bring to our families, communities, and workplaces. It’s a day to celebrate our seniors and let them know how much we respect them and care for them.
Here are some things you can do for National Seniors Day:
- Call a senior in your life and have a chat either by phone or video call
- Send a card or postcard in the mail and surprise them with a letter
- Visit that important senior in your life and go for a walk outside, play a game of cards, or have lunch together
- Do something kind for a senior in your life. Do chores, run errands, or cook them dinner
- Sit down with and look at old photos together and remember some good times!
- Learn more about your family history. Speak with your elders and learn about their lives. Learn where you come from
- Smile and just say “hi”

Local Musicians Delight Residents With Live Concert
“Music is the only thing we can engage with that activates every part of our brain.” Dr. Ann Heiderscheit, Professor of Music Therapy.
Experiencing live music provokes memory, sparks joy, inspires movement and creates community. It is a vital piece of the care we provide at Menno Place. On August 25th it was our pleasure to host Dr. Calvin Dyck and Carmen Fast Hollett as they performed a concert of church favourites and classical pieces to the delight of our residents.
In addition to being a concert violinist, composer, and conductor, Dr. Dyck is a longstanding friend of Menno Place. During the pandemic he brought musicians to play outdoor concerts for our residents who sat safely distant on their balconies to listen. It was a much needed bright spot in the dark days of March 2020.
We are so fortunate in Abbotsford to have people like Dr. Dyck and Carmen Hollett who care deeply about our seniors and take time from busy schedules to volunteer and share their talents. You could see the appreciation on the faces of the residents and hear it in their enthusiastic applause. Thank you for helping us ensure that music is part of every resident’s experience.
Join The Party: We’re Celebrating Grandparents Day on Sept 12th
Our Grandparents Day celebration at Menno Place is a special time for kids of all ages to enjoy a fun-filled and whimsical afternoon with grandpa, grandma, or a special friend!
Canada Day Car Show & Celebrations at Menno Place
One of our favourite ways to kick off the summer is with the annual Classic Car Show in honour of Canada Day in the Menno Home courtyard.

The blue skies and sunshine set a perfect scene for this year’s Annual Memorial and Butterfly Release events. Thank you to everyone who joined us on June 12th.
2026 Strategic Framework Open House
On May 15th, we had the opportunity to come together as a community to reflect on our journey and work over the past year and look ahead to what we are doing in the near future.
The open house was marked by an update in four specific areas – our strategic priorities – Christian Values, Home of Choice, Service Excellence, and People and Culture.
We were pleased to have 50 of our staff complete the event passport which shows that they received the update at each of the booths. These staff were entered in a draw to win an Amazon gift card. Congratulations to the winner – Milet from our Housekeeping and Laundry team!
We had many external stakeholders join us including community partners and a member of our Board and we thank them for coming. It was an encouraging time to see a strong representation across our organization, and throughout the Abbotsford community.
Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped bring this event to life.
