Menno Place Goes Solar: Investing in a Sustainable Future

At Menno Place, caring for people and caring for our environment go hand in hand. That is why we are proud to announce the completion of a new solar energy project that is helping power our campus while supporting a more sustainable future.

Installed by Shift Energy Group, the new solar array consists of 70 solar panels with a 40.06 kW capacity. While the system will generate clean electricity and help reduce our reliance on grid power, the project represents much more than an energy upgrade. It reflects our commitment to responsible stewardship, innovation, and long-term sustainability.

From the moment construction began, the project created excitement across campus. Residents watched with interest as trucks arrived, roads were temporarily closed, and a crane lifted equipment into place. Like many construction projects, it quickly became a topic of conversation, with residents gathering to observe the progress and learn more about solar energy.

The enthusiasm was immediate. Residents appreciated seeing a tangible investment in the future happening right where they live. Many shared their excitement with friends and family and expressed pride in being part of a community that embraces forward-thinking solutions.

For Menno Place, sustainability is an important consideration as we continue to meet the growing need for senior housing and care services. With demand increasing and energy costs continuing to rise, organizations must look for ways to operate efficiently while maintaining high-quality services. Solar energy provides an opportunity to reduce operating costs while making responsible use of available resources.

Our campus offered an ideal location for solar generation, with rooftop space that could be transformed into a productive source of clean energy. The project aligns with our belief that sustainability should be considered whenever organizations undertake redevelopment, expansion, or new construction projects.

The installation process itself was remarkably smooth. Working alongside Shift Energy Group and with support from trusted industry partners, the project moved forward seamlessly from planning through completion. Special care was taken to ensure residents could continue their daily routines with minimal disruption.

Today, the system is actively generating electricity. Using monitoring software, our team can track energy production and system performance in real time. The ability to generate a portion of our own electricity helps reduce dependence on external energy sources while providing long-term financial benefits.

Perhaps the greatest success of the project has been the positive response from residents. The installation sparked conversations about environmental stewardship and reinforced a shared commitment to protecting the world for future generations. It demonstrated that sustainability is important to people of all ages and that seniors are just as passionate about environmental responsibility as younger generations.

As we look ahead, we believe renewable energy deserves serious consideration across the seniors’ living and long-term care sector. Solar energy offers operational, financial, and environmental benefits while inspiring residents and staff alike.

For Menno Place, going solar was a natural choice. By harnessing the power of the sun, we are taking another step toward building a more sustainable campus of care and creating a brighter future for generations to come.
